The Waikato Home & Garden Show 2012

Pushing the Frontiers of Technology and Design.

For four days from October 4, Hamilton’s Claudelands Events Centre will present an extravaganza of world-class products for the home, award winning New Zealand food and beverages and product that is pushing the frontier of home technology and design.

Touch-screen, interactive kitchen benchtop technology and a stunning range of innovations from the world’s top brand names along with more than 250 Smeg and Baumatic appliances will be on sale. Smeg will also reveal the latest incarnation of its high fashion hi-tech range of refrigerators. The Denim plasma coated refrigerator has just launched at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and one of only 500 available world- wide will at the show.

Everything will be available to see, taste, touch or buy at great Show prices and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prizes and specials are up for grabs.

An exciting programme of kids and adult cooking competitions and cooking demonstrations by award winning chefs Paul Jobin Stephen Barry, Mikey Newlands and Mat McLean will run in the state-of-the-art Smeg kitchen throughout the event and specialty cooking demonstrations and samplings feature throughout the Gourmet Food Court.

Garden and landscaping enthusiasts will be treated to stunning inventive garden designs, new plants and ingenious new products. They can also cast their ‘people’s choice’ vote in the prestigious New Zealand Landscape Design Awards – now in their 20th year, as industry leading judges also scrutinise every aspect of the skilled and diverse designs. One lucky voter will win a prize to the value of $1000 sponsored by Classic Hits ZHFM.

Veteran landscaper and horticultural guru Graeme Burton has developed something Topiary Different for the show this year – a unique range of tall and graceful topiary trees – the result of years of expert trimming and shaping.Keep and eye out too for a fantastic selection of some of the best flowering new perennials from around the world at his Rukahia Homestead Landscaping site and talk to the man himself about visiting his spectacular themed gardens if if it’s ideas you’re after.

Five selected interior designers have risen to the challenge to create an “Oh So Modern’ room. Visitors can expect six very different concepts from this great talent, talk to the designers and also cast their ‘people’s choice vote using state-of-the-art touch screen technology.

We’ve made sure visitors will find an abundance of food and drink to enjoy including a host of unique delights – from deli’s and quick snack to fudge, liquorice, Turkish bread, pasta, truffles and Buffalo burgers and all the latest kitchen necessities for the home gourmet cook.

Whangaripo Buffalo Cheese Company (and some baby water buffalo) will be on hand to offer samples of their top shelf Buffalo products – wonderful steaks and air dried sausages, patties plus wonderful yoghurt and cheeses. Gourmet American chilli, award winning cheeses, meats and honey products, New Zealand wines, beers, liqueurs and cider will also be a feature of the Arena along with specialty cooking equipment for the serious home cook.

This year you can bring the kids to the Children’s’ Zone for a highlight of their own during the Show.Sponsored by Springfree Trampolines the kids focused area features two of “the world’s safest trampolines” . Kids and fun loving adults of all ages are invited to have a bouncing great time totally free of charge. The trampolines will be supervised by Springfree staff at all times. Children can also enjoy a petting zoo and a pony ride.

And finally – unique sanctuary for Men. All over the world men are getting together in sheds to bang nails, weld metal, shape wood, tinker with engines or just relaxing. Talking is optional. For the first time this year, The Waikato Home & Garden Show will feature a space specifically for the babyboomer males amongst us – 8m by 16 m of hand-crafted BlokeShed. A delight of craftsmanship, passion and superb restoration work the BlokeShed is unlikely to disappoint men of a certain age with a penchant for music (garage music of a high standard, a fire, hand crafted India Pale Ale created especially for the Show by Shunters Brewery,bar food (not nibbles) and a few assorted classic car and motorbike curiosities. Also useful as a ‘man crèche’, partners are of course also welcome!

Bring your plans, sketches, ideas and dreams, taste your way around the Gourmet Food Court and enjoy a the fabulous cafés, bars and entertainment.
