Given the diversity and size of the continent, it is not an easy task to choose the top destinations in Africa. Below I’ve managed to prepare a list of some of my favorite places which are perfect for summer holidays in Africa. Trip to any of these destinations will certainly be worthwhile.
1. Victoria Falls, Zambia/Zimbabwe
Located in between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Victoria Falls are just over 108 m high and 1.7 km wide. The spray generated by this huge amount of water rises 1000 feet into the sky and can be observed from 50 km away.
2. The Masai Mara, Kenya
Masai Mara is the place to be if you wish to see the big five in one morning. The wildlife spectacle is matchless during the period of July to October. There is nothing quite like observing the annual migration of millions of wildebeest through a hot-air balloon.
3. Djenne, Mali
Djenne, one of the oldest cities of sub-Saharan Africa, was founded in 800 AD. It is located on an island of the Niger River delta. In the ancient times Djenne was a trading point in between the forests of Guinea and the Sahara desert. Today, it has become a center of Islamic learning. These Pyramids are tombs to different Egyptian Kings.
5. Marrakech, Morocco
The imperial city Marrakech which is located at the base of Atlas Mountain is fascinating, polluted, noisy and large. If you expect to see lots of activities, you should stay in an old walled part of the town, known as the Medina. The Djemma el Fnaa and the Majorelle Gardens are other beautiful places you must visit in this city.
6. Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is one of the most attractive cities of the world. The Table Mountain and beautiful beaches are the major highlights of this exquisite city. The wines and restaurants are world class. It is also one of the African cities, which is recognized for the cultural diversity.
